Job Title: Senior Scientist

Job Description

As a Senior Scientist, you will analyze and interpret process data to identify trends, assess equipment and process performance, and support data-driven decision-making. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying and monitoring key process indicators (KPIs) and establishing control systems to verify and optimize performance. You will lead process improvement initiatives, including capital expenditure projects, from concept through implementation, utilizing standard problem-solving methodologies and Lean manufacturing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret process data to identify trends and assess equipment and process performance.
  • Identify and monitor key process indicators (KPIs) and establish control systems.
  • Perform process analysis, including mass balance, to support process development and optimization.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives, including capital expenditure projects.
  • Utilize standard problem-solving methodologies and Lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Design and execute lab-scale experiments and scale-up studies.
  • Support technology transfer and operational scaling for biomanufacturing processes.
  • Assist in process design, development, and validation efforts.
  • Create and maintain detailed process descriptions and user requirement specifications.
  • Serve as the technical owner of the process, equipment, and centerline settings.
  • Complete all core process design deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams, Heat and Material Balances, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Support equipment selection, sizing, installation, and start-up activities.
  • Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions, training materials, and job aids.
  • Develop training content and provide process expertise to operations teams.

Essential Skills

  • Strong chemical or biological science background with lab and scale-up activities.
  • Experience in biotechnology, fermentation, food-grade products, or similar environments.
  • Two to five years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in process data analysis using Excel, JMP, Minitab, Python, or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform heat and material balances, mass balances, and interpret process flow diagrams.
  • Experience developing and maintaining key manufacturing documents.
  • Knowledge of process control systems and Lean manufacturing principles.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in biology, molecular biology, microbiology, chemical engineering, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, biological science, bioengineering.
  • Familiarity with fermentation and bioreactor operations.
  • Experience in scale-up and scale-down processes.

Work Environment

The work environment includes working in the laboratory, facility, and office settings. The role involves collaboration with various groups such as R&D, Quality, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance to scale up and implement new processes and equipment. The position is a first shift role with flexible hours, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30/4:30 p.m., requiring 40 to 45 hours per week.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/yr.

They offer decent vacation as well. Usually 15 PTO and 5 anything days starting out.
