What You'll Do

  • Under the direction of laboratory manager and senior staff, conducts routine and non-routine analysis of samples via various methodologies to identify and/or confirm sample quality and/or variation.
  • Perform all aspects of analysis including sample preparation using digestion, extraction, solubilization, complexation, ion exchange, etc., preparation of standards, calibration and standardization of instrumentation, routine preventative, diagnostic, and quality control maintenance, interference correction methods, and data review.
  • Interfaces with customers and program managers to provide technical guidance on available analytical options and capabilities relevant to submitted analysis requests.
  • Work with laboratory manager to review and modernize current procedures as well as to develop new methods and procedures for analytical services as technologies, requirements, and customer requirements evolve.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field and minimum 2 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 4 to 7 years.
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Broad knowledge of multifaceted areas of chemistry, with experience in modernizing and optimizing lab processes and instrumentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, including technical writing skills.
  • High level of personal motivation, strong leadership skills and the ability to work within changing situations to meet short deadlines.
  • Requires a copy of the resume, diploma, and transcript be provided by the candidate.
  • Experience in the field of radiochemistry separation methodologies as well as radiochemistry courting techniques such as Alpha and Gamma Spectrometry, Liquid Scintillation and Gas Flow Proportional counting techniques preferred, but not required.
