Job Summary:
The Lead Metallurgical Engineer, reporting to the Cold Rolling Lead Area Manager, is an integral part of the Quality Systems team accountable for accomplishment of business objectives consistent with Arconic values. The Lead Metallurgical Engineer will lead continuous improvement in the manufacture of automotive, packaging, and industrial sheet, driving excellence in manufacturing, evaluation, and performance of sheet products produced at TN operations in their area of responsibility.
RESPONSIBILITIESIn this role, you will:
- Direct supervision of metallurgical and quality resources, process stability within the product/ process areas of their responsibility.
- Lead Metallurgists to ensure they are focused on process stability, process improvement and ensuring end product meets customer requirements.
- Determine impact and process control for equipment and operations that affect product quality. Utilize Metallurgy/Material Science experience and knowledge to develop improvement plans for the process to ensure customer satisfaction and drive cost reduction.
- Develop, direct and execute methods to improve process stability, improvement projects to eliminate safety and quality concerns, reduce cost, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Measure and monitor ongoing results in process management to continually improve our products and processes.
- Troubleshoot, design, and execute experiments to develop new processes and products.
- Translate customer and industry standards into process design, control plans, FMEA, production work instructions to ensure clear and accurate execution.
- Provide day-to-day technical advice, problem solving and support to operations and maintenance by applying quality systems and engineering principles and reliability tools to drive problems to root cause.
- Drive benchmarking of production processes in the area of their responsibility against best practices.
This role is primarily day shift, Monday-Friday. However, because our facilities operate on a 24/7 schedule, this role is expected to support the overall quality function of the areas for new product trials, production disruptions, and training. This could include on-call help and/or working off-hours/off-shifts at times to support the operation.

- This role reports to the Lead Area Manager and can include some travel (about 10%). This role is eligible for Relocation Benefits.
You have: (required)
- Bachelors degree in metallurgical engineering or materials science from an accredited institution, or related field.
- Minimum of six (6) years of metallurgical experience working with metals.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Exceptional Candidates also have: (preferred)
- Experience in one or more areas of coil or sheet finish, rolling, extrusion, forging
- Broad understanding of finishing operations and interactions with product criteria for coil and sheet, upstream processing, surface criteria, metallurgy, and thermal processes.
- Ability to lead multi-function teams for problem solving and continual improvement.
- Knowledgeable in industry standards for mechanical testing.
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication.
- 10+ years manufacturing quality experience.
- Experience in industrial, aerospace, and automotive processes and/or products.
- Knowledgeable in quality system standards in one or more of ISO9001, IATF16949, AS9100.
