Job Description

Purpose:

Technical expert that will independently investigate, identify, develop and optimize new methods/ techniques to address critical project needs. Continuously seek to improve existing laboratory methods and processes. Read and adapt literature to accomplish assignments. Demonstrate mastery of broad range of experimental techniques and methods of data analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Uses laboratory techniques including pipetting, reconstituting reagents, calculating concentrations, dilutions, and weighing raw materials, to complete instrument setup and post-processing of arrays or peptides
  • Runs instrumentation including MAS units, HPLC, Lyophilizer, Traditional peptide synthesizers, Centrifuge, Rotova
  • Completes hazardous waste training (RCRA/DOT) and manages waste (including bulking and disposition to hazardous waste handler for transportation)
  • Uses existing SOP's to perform standardized activities, recommends changes/improvements as necessary
  • Reports potential process improvements as needed. Initiates and conducts optimization experiments. Presents data and implements changes based on result
  • Maintains complete and accurate lab notebook records of procedures performed
  • May lead the development of new data analysis method
  • Prepares and reviews technical reports, SOP's, summaries, and quantitative analyses that detail procedures, observations, and result
  • May review current literature in support of gaining knowledge of specific processes
  • Trains new employees on laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and other job requirements.
Qualifications
  • BS or equivalent education with typically 7 or more years of experience or MS or equivalent education with typically 5 or more years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.
  • Ability to multitask and work within timelines.
  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of chemical handling, storage and proper use.
  • Advanced data analysis skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, MassLynx, Empower, slide viewer etc.
  • Ability to teach experimental techniques, assist with technical writing, and aid in troubleshooting.
