- New York, New York
- Full Time
The Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics at Columbia University invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist position in theoretical condensed matter and materials physics, with an emphasis on the development of computational and analytical methods for strongly correlated electron systems. This position is part of a research program dedicated to advancing the Variational Discrete Action Theory (VDAT) - a novel variational approach to the quantum many-body problem. Candidates should have a strong background in theoretical/computational condensed matter and or materials physics, or related field. Experience with computational many-body physics is desired, including techniques such as the dynamical mean-field theory, quantum Monte-Carlo approaches, diagonalization approaches, etc. Strong candidates with related, but different, expertise will be considered. Programming experience is desirable. Strong communication skills (oral and written) are essential, and the ability to mentor students in a team environment is desirable. The position is initially for six months, possibly extending to four years. The position is available immediately and will remain open until it is filled.
Candidates must have a PhD in physics, materials science, applied math, chemistry, or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant post-PhD experience.
