Stantec seeks a Project Scientist/Geologist/Engineer to join our growing Environmental Services team in Rochester, NY. Your Key Responsibilities
- Supporting environmental investigation and remediation work at commercial and industrial facilities located in urban, rural, or undeveloped locations.
- Preparing reports summarizing periodic environmental monitoring in accordance with permit requirements.
- Assisting with the preparation of proposals.
- Coordinating, conducting, and reporting on field work including sediment, soil, soil gas, and water level collection, groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, well installation, stormwater and waste sampling.
- Completing Phase I/II/III Environmental Site Assessments and summary reports, environmental compliance documents, soil management plans, remedial action plans, and various regulatory program permits.
- Conducting field elevation and GIS surveys.
- Conducting construction and post construction environmental (SWPPP) inspections and monitoring to verify compliance with Stormwater and other environmental permit conditions.
- Drafting SWPPP and SPCC plans.
- Coordinating and assisting with conducting hazardous building material assessments.
- Providing on-site EHS support at client facilities.
- Compiling and interpreting analytical data.
- Coordinating and communicating effectively with colleagues, clients, subcontractors, and regulators.
- Preparing health and safety plans and serving as a site health and safety officer.
- Conducting inspections, sampling, and monitoring of remediation during construction phases.
- Preparation of a wide range of reports and involving environmental regulatory compliance and environmental impact analysis.
- Regularly travel throughout NY, Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states. Travel to other areas may also be required.
- Work with multidisciplinary natural resources staff and be responsible for the safety and well-being of other field staff and perform tasks required for fieldwork such as workflow planning, scheduling, data collection and dissemination, reporting, and communication with project management, clients and regulators.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong familiarity with environmental regulations in one or more northeastern states is essential.
- Pursuing PE, PG, LSP, and/or LEP within 5 years.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER required.
- Training or certifications with OSHA Competent Person standards is a plus.
- Ability to complete assignments independently and delegate work / lead a team when necessary.
- Willingness and ability to learn new systems and skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Self-starter who is proactive and can identify daily needs and assist as necessary to complete client assignments.
- Valid drivers license, a good driving record, and willingness to travel occasionally.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical is required.
- Willingness to travel to support field assignments as necessary.
- Experience with environmental sampling is preferred.
Education and Experience
- B.S. (M.S. a plus) degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering or related discipline
- Previous co-op/Internship of quality experience with site assessments, site investigation and remediation, and/or regulatory compliance support.
