Senior Cell Culture Scientist

  • Repligen Corporation
  • Waltham, Massachusetts
  • Full Time
Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Cell Culture Scientist to join our Advanced Bioprocess Applications R&D team. This role will focus on developing and optimizing perfusion cell culture processes using Alternating Tangential Flow (ATF), Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) and Tangential Flow Depth Filtration (TFDF) technologies, as well as testing new filters, systems, and process analytical technologies. Experience with mammalian cell culture, particularly Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells for monoclonal antibody (mAb) production and Human Embryonic Kidney 293 (HEK293) cells for viral vector production, is essential. As a Senior Cell Culture Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our bioprocess applications through innovative research and development. You will be responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing experiments to optimize cell culture processes and improve bioprocessing tools and technologies. Your expertise in mammalian cell culture, combined with in-depth knowledge of cell and molecular biology and strong foundation in chemical engineering principles, will be critical to the success of this role. Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize batch, fed-batch and ATF/TFF-based perfusion cell culture processes for various biopharmaceutical applications, with a focus on CHO cells for mAb production and HEK293 cells for viral vector production.
  • Design and execute experiments to evaluate new filters, systems, and process analytical technologies in the context of mammalian cell culture.
  • Conduct thorough data analysis to interpret experimental results and draw sound scientific conclusions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies and processes into existing bioprocessing workflows.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and scientific publications related to mammalian cell culture processes.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in cell culture and bioprocessing technologies.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams and external customers on mammalian cell culture processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications

Experience and Qualifications

  • PhD in Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 8 years of industry experience.
  • Proven experience in developing and optimizing cell culture processes, particularly ATF and TFF perfusion systems, at PD scale (i.e. 0.5 to 20L).
  • Strong background in data analysis and interpretation, with proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization tools.
  • Solid understanding of both biological principles and chemical engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with process analytical technologies (PAT) and their application in upstream bioprocessing.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific data clearly and concisely.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience in a GMP or regulated environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with bioreactor systems and process scale-up to pilot and manufacturing scales is desirable.
