What You Will Do**

The Trace Analytical Chemistry Team (C-TAC) of the Nuclear and Radiochemistry Group (C-NR) in the Chemistry Division is seeking a talented analytical Chemist to join their team. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:

+ Performing sample preparation associate with trace-level analysis of elements in various matrices, including nuclear materials, in support of the nuclear security mission.

+ Providing technical leadership for sample preparation, method troubleshooting, improvement, and development.

+ Participating in and leading R&D projects related to the nuclear security mission.

+ Performing data evaluation and interpretation of analytical results.

+ Communicating technical results internally and externally, including through peer-reviewed journals and scientific meetings.

**What You Need**

**Minimum Job Requirements:**

+ Extensive laboratory experience in chemistry or a related physical sciences discipline (such as biology, geochemistry, or oceanography),

+ Experience developing data reduction protocols for analyzing data outputs from analytical instrumentation,

+ Demonstrated success with engineering scientific solutions for complex analytical problems,

+ Strong communication skills as evidenced by a research seminar presentation that provides a compelling technical narrative of prior work,

+ Demonstrated written and oral communication skills including experience in writing project reports, peer-reviewed articles and giving scientific presentations at domestic and international conferences,

+ Proven ability to work as part of a team and under pressure,

+ Experience developing scientific proposals,

+ Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires US citizenship.

**Education/Experience:** Position requires a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited college and university and 4 years of related experience, typically with post-doctoral research experience at a university or national lab or equivalent experience directly related to the occupation.

**Desired Qualifications:**

+ Experience working in a cleanroom

+ Demonstrated advanced level experience with radioanalytical sample preparation methods for trace analysis in support of environmental monitoring, nuclear forensics and/or any related programs,

+ Demonstrated experience working in a radioanalytical laboratory and working in chemical fume hoods,

+ Experience working with relatively large quantities of mineral acids (e.g., nitric, hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids),

+ Experience safely handling highly radioactive samples, including alpha and beta/gamma emitters,

+ Basic understanding of radiometric and/or mass spectrometry measurements.

+ Advanced degree in the physical sciences (i.e., radiochemistry, inorganic chemistry or analytical chemistry)

**Work Location:** The work location for this position is fully onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

**Position commitment:** Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. **Additional Details**

**Directive 206.2** - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

**Clearance: Q** (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

**New-Employment Drug Test:** The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

**Regular position:** Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
