Senior Scientist (Pediatric Low-Grade Astrocytoma Program)
The Pediatric Low-Grade Astrocytoma Program at DFCI seeks a Senior Research Scientist as its Director of Strategic Operations. This person will report to the Programs Executive Director, Dr. Mimi Bandopadhayay and guide the overall direction the Program and execution of Program goals.
This is a part-time 20 hr week position

ResponsibilitiesDuties will include:
- Develop scientific strategy for the overall Program
- Translational research and clinical trial networking - bringing investigators from non-DFCI institutions into the DFCI network to create powerful synergies
- Write and edit funding proposals, manuscripts, and communications with scientists, patients and families, and the wider public
- Solicit proposals for funding that promote Program goals
- Track scientific progress within the Program and draft reports for stakeholders including patients, their families, donors, and funding agencies
- Foster communications across laboratories with potential synergies
- Liaison with scientific teams and potential donors, representing clinician scientists while advocating for pediatric brain cancer funding as a spokesperson
- Orchestrate and plan conferences including meetings between scientists and with the wider public
- Mentor trainees who are involved in the Program on scientific communication, career development, and public speaking
- Seek out potential funders through RFAs, donors, and new foundations
The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting scientific discovery, a team player, enthusiastic about translational research to help improve patient outcomes, and highly self-motivated.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
- PhD (or MD/PhD) degree in molecular biology, cellular biology, cancer biology, computational/computer science or related discipline.
- Prior experience in directing scientific operations within large collaborative teams in the academic setting
- Leadership experience in collaborating with scientific stakeholders for strategic planning and development of research themes in neuro-oncology, preferably pediatric Neuro-oncology
- Experience in working with external stakeholders and fundraisers to facilitate collaboration with scientific teams. This includes pursuing opportunities for strategic partnerships and collaborations
- Prior experience in mentoring scientists at all levels
- Experience in preparing and managing collaborative grants such as NIH Program or SPORE Awards
- Track record in organizing academic and programatic events such as collaborative science meetings and/or retreats
- Ability to build teams of scientists and other stakeholders across institutes
- Enthusiastic, team player, innovative and analytical thinker, and self-motivated individual.
- Experience managing scientific teams and communicating with stakeholders
- Proven track record of collaboration across teams
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent mentorship skills
- Candidate should have an outstanding academic and professional track record
