R&D Chemist
CHEMetrics located in Midland, VA, and a subsidiary of AquaPhoenix Scientific, has an immediate opening for a R&D Chemist . This role is critical in researching, developing, improving, and validating chemical reagents used in water analysis and treatment applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in analytical or formulation chemistry and experience working with colorimetric water analysis.

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations:
Although not all inclusive, additional responsibilities, expectations and skills will include:
- Develop knowledge and understanding of CHEMetrics product lines to include CHEMets, Titrets and Vacu-vials and support their development, improvement and application.
- Provide timely support and technical expertise to customers via phone and email, including troubleshooting product performance and offering application guidance.
- Develop familiarity with the chemical reactions involved in various test kit methods and understand how product performance is evaluated .
- Function as a technical support resource to manufacturing and assist in troubleshooting issues arising during the manufacturing process.
- Provide analytical support to the Quality Assurance team including conducting shelf-life validations for finished products and performing incoming raw material evaluations to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Keep R&D projects on schedule and maintain organized, detailed records of all work performed. Communicate findings regularly to the R&D Manager.
AquaPhoenix Scientific considers applicants with diverse backgrounds, education, and work experience; however, applicants for the R&D Chemist position will frequently have a combined education and/or work experience that is a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and at least five or more years’ work experience in a laboratory setting in manufacturing, food/beverage, or water treatment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of laboratory experience in chemical R&D or analytical testing. Water treatment experience is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office and basic lab software/data systems.
- Understanding of regulatory labeling and SDS requirements.
- Experience working under ISO 9001 or GMP environments.
