Position Description

Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with PhD studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions

The selected candidate will join Dr. Gerardine Botte's laboratories (www.ceti-lab.com) and/or the NSF Engineering Research Center, CASFER (www.casfer.us), working under her supervision and in collaboration with senior research associates. Performance will be evaluated based on achievement of assigned objectives and contribution to overall project success.

This position will support a broad portfolio of research projects, with an initial emphasis on separation processes in both water and gas phase environments for the production of fertilizers from wastewater effluents. The successful candidate will also collaborate to multidisciplinary environmental and electrochemical research efforts, including: PFAS detection and elimination, hydrogen generation from ammonia, nitrogen and phosphorus recovery from waste streams, carbon nanostructure and graphene synthesis, water treatment and disinfection, selective catalytic reduction, ammonia synthesis, novel battery materials development, advanced electrowinning techniques, and sustainability assessments through technoeconomic and life cycle analyses.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in separation processes and electrochemical systems, with experience in optimizing materials for performance in complex water matrices and variable gas-phase compositions.

Experience integrating adsorption with electrochemical systems for sensing or remediation

Required Qualifications

PhD in Electrochemistry or related field. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong publication record in adsorption science, electrochemical systems, or related fields

Proficiency with analytical techniques for water and gas analysis: GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-OES, TGA, NMR, IC, XRD, Volumetric and gravimetric gas adsorption analysis

Experience in material synthesis, characterization, and performance testing in both aqueous and gas-phase conditions

Familiarity with adsorption isotherms, kinetics, and breakthrough curve analysis

Capability in rapid prototyping, manufacturing, and test rig assembly

Expertise in accelerated testing protocols for adsorbent/regeneration cycle life

Track record of high-quality technical reports, presentations, and grant writing
