Position Title: Laboratory Technician: Science (Temporary, Part-Time, up to 19.5 hours per week)
Department: Science - All Campuses
Rate of Pay: $19.58/hour

Position Summary:
The Laboratory Technician, Science is responsible for providing assistance to instructional faculty, staff, and students in the science laboratory. This position works in the instructional areas of the natural/physical sciences performing a variety of skilled technical support duties across multiple scientific disciplines.
There are opportunities available at multiple PCC campuses.
Evening and/or weekend hours may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares and organizes laboratory equipment and supplies used during classroom laboratory experiments
- Oversees the preparation and maintenance of various equipment, instructional media, and other materials used for class exercises, experiments, and demonstrations
- Organizes, develops, and maintains laboratory documents essential for lab experiments. Prepares and disseminates safety data for classroom use
- Oversees and maintains chemical and biological stock and safety data sheets to ensure regulatory compliance within lab space and required storage. Provides documentation for chemical waste handling and biological waste disposal
- Facilitates lab use for students during operating hours, cleans and disinfects equipment and workspace, and locks and unlocks doors to the laboratory
- Inventories stock and orders supplies needed for the program. May oversee animal care acquisitions and adoptions
- Performs needed maintenance to equipment
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) to three (3) years of related experience in a laboratory
OR
- An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
Preferred:
- Associate degree in Applied Science or a closely related field of study
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biology or a closely related field of study
- Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience with a laboratory in an Institution of higher learning
Other Requirements:
- May require Hazardous Materials Certification

Physical Requirements:
- Positions in this class typically require: talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, and fine finger movements - using the fingers to manipulate and handle objects such as typing, sorting papers, activating button, sorting/separating small parts; balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting
- Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, dusts, chemicals, workspace restrictions, and intense noises
- Must be capable of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may include: goggles, gloves, closed-toe-shoes, face shield, dust masks, and lab coats/aprons
- Must be able to handle and safely dispose of chemicals, solutions, and bio-hazardous materials common to the science department
