Vectorply, a world leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of high-performance composite fabrics, is a privately-owned company with headquarters in Phenix City, AL is seeking an early to mid career Composite Materials Engineer. Vectorply employs approximately 220 employees between administration, sales and production and produces more than 300 distinctive styles of reinforcement fabrics for a wide variety of composite applications.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide laminate recommendations for potential and current customers utilizing Vectorply reinforcements, VectorLam software, and proper engineering methodology
- Provide technical service and support to Vectorply sales / customer service staff, and customer base regarding Vectorply reinforcements and VectorLam software
- Support current engineering staff on VectorLam software development and updates
- Perform/arrange laminate testing (physical or mechanical) in support of customer and internal projects
- Conduct presentations regarding Vectorply reinforcements at conventions or to small groups of customers
- Submit technical papers to industry publications
- Take part in process reviews at customer facilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with distributor and supplier technical support reps (core, resin, etc.)
Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum bachelors degree in engineering Composite, Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, or other relevant degrees
- Highly familiar with composite materials, especially those used in liquid molding processes, including reinforcement fibers, core materials, resins, etc.
- Hands-on experience with composite processing methods
- Vacuum Infusion (VARTM)
- RTM-Light
- RTM
- Wet Bagging
- Prepregs/Autoclave
- Hand layup
- Good knowledge of structural design with composites materials, ideally in applications utilizing liquid molding processes using glass and carbon fiber reinforcements
- Familiar with composite laminate analysis and classical laminate theory; VectorLam software experience is a plus
- Familiarity with composite material applications in marine, industrial, automotive, aerospace, & sporting goods industries
- Proficiency in some form of CAD (Rhino, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) and some experience with FEA (Strand7, HyperMesh, etc.) software is a plus
- 10%-40% travel generally within the US and Canada
- Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
- Reside within the Phenix City, AL / Columbus, GA area with an office located at the main plant, or at a satellite office located in the United States
