POSITION SUMMARY:

The Data Scientist is responsible for collecting data using analytical, statistical, and programming skills. They will use data to support projects for research on Long COVID and the innovation arm of the All of Us Research Program ( All of Us ). This includes analyzing wearable sensor data to identify clinical outcomes, conduct predictive modeling to identify relevant participant cohorts, and predict engagement and retention behavior in studies. They will support data cleaning and management of large datasets of health data that are collected through different research programs, frequently interact with other teams within Scripps Research, and will collaborate closely with researchers with expertise in behavioral science, clinical research and artificial intelligence. They will also produce written reports and presentations for external audiences, including funding partners and academic publications. The role is a unique opportunity for someone with skills and interest in data science techniques to deepen their capabilities across a varied set of tasks and types of data. You will also have opportunities to build a research career by contributing to scientific publications and open-source projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Processes platform usage metrics of different research programs and, with supervision, distills insights in line with program objectives.
  • Produces visualizations of platform usage metrics via Tableau and Python.
  • Supports in cleaning and managing large amounts of health data (e.g., wearable sensor data, surveys, Electronic Health Record), up to TBs of data.
  • Supports in designing and prototyping novel algorithms and predictive analytics.
  • Collaborates with other data scientists and AI researchers on projects.
  • Collaborates with colleagues outside the data science team and can communicate progress on analytics requests.
  • With supervision, produces written reports and presentations of data analysis, findings, and takeaways to a high standard.
  • Maintains well-organized codebooks and work folders.
  • With supervision, coordinates with technical developers to construct, release and visualize new metrics in line with program objectives.
  • Manages work across multiple projects that have different timelines and levels of priority.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience using Python for the analysis of structured and unstructured datasets; experience with Python libraries (including Pandas, SciPy, NumPy, Scikit-Learn)
  • Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of statistical reasoning for the analysis of experimental and real-world data.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members towards shared objectives
  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple teams and organizations, presenting analytical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Maintain a high level of integrity in dealing with sensitive information.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This is remote position. This is a temporary position anticipated for about 6 months.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, lifting, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.

COMPENSATION: The expected hiring range for this position is $70,000 to $90,679 per year, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
