Synthego is enabling genome engineering at scale with a blend of scientific instrumentation, industrial automation, and data science. Our team of scientists and engineers are putting multidisciplinary fields together to solve problems that no one field can tackle alone. We are searching for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Chemistry Development team to develop new processes and products. As a Research Associate at Synthego, with a focus in Process Chemistry and Product Development, you will be responsible for creating new technologies and transferring them into our manufacturing platform. This role will collaborate closely with the research, development, operations, and data teams. What You'll Do:
  • Synthesize oligonucleotides using solid-phase synthesis.
  • Process, purify, and analyze RNA or DNA.
  • Assess experimental outcomes through UV and mass spectrometry data.
  • Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Facilitate the movement of knowledge and technologies from research settings to operation applications.
  • Explore, assess, optimize, and scale up new technologies for deployment into manufacturing.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, solutions, and media according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with research, development, operations, and data teams to author, optimize, and execute experimental protocols.
  • Generate and maintain records or documents in a detailed and consistent manner.
  • Assist with the execution of experiments under minimal supervision.
  • Present findings alongside colleagues to an interdepartmental team.
About You:
  • BS in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a similar field
  • 1-3 years of industry experience within a development or research environment, preferably in a small company/start-up setting.
  • Experience using oligonucleotide synthesizers for RNA / DNA.
  • Experience working with biotech lab equipment, preferably in a production (industrial) setting but an academic environment is also fine.
  • Data visualization and report writing, with experience reporting results or scientific findings in internal cross-functional meetings.
  • Strong desire to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral), and an ability to interact with various departments and levels.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and as part of a team, to meet departmental/facility goals; is also able to work across functions to achieve common goals.
  • Must be able to speak and read English with excellent understanding
Nice to Haves:
  • Experience with process optimization.
  • Python coding for data analysis.
  • Experience with GE/Cytiva (oligoprocess, Pilot 600s and OligoPilots) synthesis equipment, Agilent HPLC, LCMS, QTOF, GC systems, Hamilton Liquid Handlers
