Description
This is the position for a Research Associate for the Department of Pathology at LSUHSC - Shreveport. The research associate will work under direct supervision of Dr. Amr Salem.
Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position. Typical work hours will consist of eight hour days, Monday through Friday, typically 8am to 5pm. Overtime: Occasional work flow or deadlines may require longer hours.
95% Essential Position Functions & Duties
Essential Functions: The research associate will conduct experiments on cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis and aneurysm, collect, analyze, and interpret data; maintain accurate research records, assist in manuscript writing and grant preparation, collaborate with lab members and external researchers, Maintain lab equipment and ensure a safe working environment, support the development of new research directions, mentor and train students, if applicable, and ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory guidelines.
Essential Duties: The research associate will perform experiments in several fields including but not limited to molecular biology, genomics, transcriptomics, bioinformatics, cell biology, animal work, immunology, and biochemistry. These experiments aim to study bacterial manipulation of immune responses. The person will also oversee departmental equipment housed in the molecular core. Minimal requirements include familiarity with molecular techniques, immunology assays, and biochemical assays, including PCR, qPCR, bacterial plasmid cloning, ELISA, genotyping, and western blotting.
Other duties: Responsibilities include hands-on laboratory work such as DNA, RNA, and protein isolation from mouse and mammalian and bacterial cells, maintaining cell lines, and conducting infection assays such as gentamicin protection assay. Other responsibilities include routine laboratory organization, maintenance and control of laboratory inventory, purchasing various items, reading assignments of relevant literature, and ensuring all lab members comply with the mandatory training.
5% Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
The applicant must meet the following:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Biology or a related field with five (5) years of research experience. Knowledge of basic pathology and molecular biology techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree from an accredited university in Biology or a related field Life Sciences, or a related field. Two (2) or more years of experience with immunophenotyping.
