The Lead Coating Materials Engineer will work in a highly skilled, cross-functional team engaged in the advancement of aerospace coating material systems. The candidate will lead TRL programs for next generation TBCs, corrosion and wear coating systems. Additionally, they will work with and in our coating material test labs to assess impact, wear, and durability capability of coatings and surface material interactions. In this role, the candidate will guide a multi-disciplinary team to achieve a set of development objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities
Remain current in the state of the art within own technical specialty for new products introduction activity, performance improvements, cost reductions and problem resolutions
Create and manage project timelines
Create and execute test plans
Understand and apply technical requirements from specifications and engineering drawings that impact materials and processes and provide guidance to multidisciplinary teams
Evaluate, compare and obtain property data to guide material selection
Perform metallurgical and compositional evaluations
Make recommendations after analysis of the data using quality tools
Document and communicate development results through technical reports and presentations
Identify Materials and Process technology gaps and propose solutions for component durability or future designs
Protect the Intellectual Property rights of the Company
Conceptual, or theoretical activities relating to the development, improvement, and usage of materials, coatings, and processes undertaken to build, apply, or shape the materials.
Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
A minimum of 3 years of engineering experience
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
Desired Characteristics
B.S, M.S. or PhD degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science or Metallurgy from an accredited college or university
Experience in wear tests and surface evaluation
Experience leading coating development projects
Experience with TRL maturation plan development and execution
