Responsibilities
Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist to work within the Wadsworth Center, Division of Infectious Diseases.
The Assistant Research Scientist will primarily assist with the routine detection and characterization of human influenza viruses. The incumbent will also assist with diagnostic, surveillance and reference testing of other human pathogenic viruses, assist with assay development and validation, and with general laboratory duties.
This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Centers mission as part of the New York State Department of Healths efforts to protect and promote the health of New Yorks citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health!
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and one year of research experience; OR a masters degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology. Degrees must be from an accredited institution.
This position will require the incumbent will meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements. These requirements can be found here: .
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a biological/biomedical science. At least two years of experience performing molecular methods, including at least one year handling infectious agents. Experience with virus culture methods. Experience developing and validating real-time PCR assays. Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office software, including for database management. Experience communicating scientific data to laboratory teammates and leadership.
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.
The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting may be available on a very limited basis.
Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment.
This position may require occasional work on weekends, after-hours, and holidays.
