Within our Analytical Services team, we have a functional service provider solution, which is a unique partnership that allows our customers to leverage the experience of our staff, while allowing you, the employee, to gain direct experience working onsite at a pharmaceutical/ biopharmaceutical company, all while maintaining full-time benefits.

The Research Scientist will support the Material Sciences Team by performing biophysical characterization of protein reagents. This work will support pharmacokinetics, immunogenicity, and biomarker assays across multiple technology platforms, including but not limited to flow cytometry, IHC, LCMS, and immunoassays. The individual will be responsible for collaborating and communicating across the organization to ensure the on-time delivery of high-quality characterized materials.

Key responsibilities:

Works independently with limited supervision to design, implement, and analyze biolayer interferometry (BLI) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and/or other experiments to assess biophysical/binding properties of antibody and non-antibody protein reagents.

Perform method development and refine characterization protocols as needed.

Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize equipment, ensuring accurate tracking/ordering of consumables, and scheduling preventive maintenance.

Maintain a safe work environment by following all established safety and universal precautions guidelines and procedures.

Provide detailed and comprehensive reports/data to management and clients as required, adhering to departmental policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance by following GCP and GLP guidelines and adhere to specific client policies and procedures outlined in training courses, work instructions, and client SOPs.

Achieve objectives in a manner consistent with the client.

Enter data into inventory systems and ELN to support normal operations.

Prepare and deliver scientific presentations at internal meetings, demonstrating expertise and thought leadership.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in lab sciences such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Material Science, Immunology, Biology, Molecular Biology or similar
  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8+ years)
  • OR Masters degree and previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable 6+ years)
  • OR PhD and previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable 4+ years)

In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Extensive operational and theoretical understanding of SPR and BLI.
  • Experience in biochemistry and a deep understanding of molecular binding interactions and concepts is required.
  • Experience with immunoassay development, conjugation, cell culture and cell-based neutralizing antibody assays is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of analytical concepts (concentration units, pH, calibration curves, QCs, compliance, etc.).
  • Able to train other in analytical lab operational skills (pipetting, balances, computer skills, etc.).
  • Theoretical understanding of mass spectrometry, HPLC, UPLC, protein purification and spectroscopic techniques is a plus but not required.
  • Theoretical understanding of immunoassays: ELISA, ECL, EIA, RIA, Western Blot, conjugate design/purification, pharmacokinetic assays, immunogenicity assays, cell-based assays, receptor assays is a plus but not required.
  • Basic understanding and experience with automated liquid handling platforms is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to write methods and/or protocols.
  • Ability to write concisely to record all pertinent data in a lab notebook.
  • Experience with LIMS systems for sample processing, data handling, and archival.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrate scientific/technical proficiency.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently.
