This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on scientist to lead development projects from concept through commercialization. responsibilities:
- Manage multiple R&D projects to develop stable, cost-effective consumer products that align with customer expectations, ingredient functionality, processing parameters, regulatory requirements, and flavor profiles.
- Lead formulation efforts for new dairy and plant-based beverage recipes, incorporating innovative ingredients and process improvements.
- Drive the development of protein beverage formulations from concept through scale-up, ensuring optimal taste, texture, stability, and production efficiency.
- Serve as a technical mentor and subject matter expert for junior staff.
- Conduct laboratory testing to troubleshoot issues and ensure product performance, safety, and compliance with quality standards; clearly communicate findings with internal teams and leadership.
- Collaborate with Applications and Flavor teams on sensory and prototype evaluations to maintain consistency and meet product expectations.
- Oversee the maintenance and calibration of lab equipment and inventory.
- Evaluate new and alternative ingredients for use in finished product development.
- Utilize internal and external resources to enhance execution, drive innovation, and support knowledge sharing across teams.
- Support scale-up activities from lab to pilot to production environments.
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed to assist in commercialization and scale-up runs.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 10-15 years of relevant experience in the food and beverage industry, particularly in beverage R&D.
- Strong technical knowledge of food science principles, ingredient functionality, beverage processing, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex development timelines.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Extensive knowledge of food and beverage testing techniques, equipment, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety and quality control procedures.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with keen attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and other
- departments, including outside clients and senior leadership.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment.
- Ability to lift and carry objects (up to 50 lbs.) and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be on site at our Avenel, NJ location.
