Job Summary

Regular, Full-Time, Limited-Term (not to exceed twelve (12) months in duration from date of hire), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawaii at Hilo (UHH), Spatial Data Analysis and Visualization Lab (SDAV), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) project, located in Hilo, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $5,250 - $5,750/Mon.
DUTIES: Provides a variety of geospatial support for ongoing research projects at SDAV. Processes raw spatial data via GIS, GPS, and remote sensing tools and applications (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, ENVI, Global Mapper, and Pix4D). Summarizes data for reports under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI). Assists in solving complex and difficult problems related to research applications. Creates flight lines for pilot's flight missions.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Geography, Environmental Science, or related field with upper division coursework in GIS and Remote Sensing.
EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of experience using GIS, Remote Sensing, and other Geospatial technologies for conservation in Hawaii using satellite and aerial imagery. Experience planning and carrying out sUAS and helicopter imaging operations.
KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of Geospatial applications and image processing, lidar, ArcGIS Pro, ENVI, Global Mapper, Pix4D, and machine learning object detection programs.
ABILITIES & SKILLS: Ability to use GIS and Remote Sensing software. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree from an college or university in Geography, Environmental Science, or related field. Experience working with Deep Forest and Python. Experience processing lidar datasets to generate forest structural metrics. Experience identifying native Hawaiian flora and fauna and identifying symptoms associated with Rapid Ohia Death using remote sensing data. Experience working in National Park locations and other conservation areas within the state of Hawaii.
