KY Plant Category Chemistry Number of Openings 1 Description Salary Range: Commensurate with education and experience, starting at $60,000 - $70,000 per year SUMMARY Plans and directs laboratory activities of chemical analysis/synthesis. Supports laboratory training activities and continuous improvement efforts. Conducts research, analysis, synthesis, and experimentation on substances, for such purposes as product and process development and application, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and improvement of analytical methodologies by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Analyzes organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties. Conducts research on manufactured products to develop and improve them. Conducts research into composition, structure, properties, relationships, and reactions of materials. Prepares instruments, standards, specifications, and instructions for processes, facilities, products, and tests. Analyzes, evaluates, and presents information concerning factors such as production capabilities, manufacturing problems, economic trends, and development of new products to management team. Reviews technical concerns and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures. Evaluates vendors to obtain information related to supply capabilities such as quality, capacity, and vendor quality standards. Collaborates with engineers to ensure the quality of new and existing products. Plans, coordinates, and directs programs for improvement of manufacturing processes. Directs analytical and testing programs to verify the composition of manufactured products and natural resources (e.g., air, soil, and water). Coordinates and directs analysis activities including the review and approval of modifications to existing formulas, standards, specifications, and processes while ensuring adherence to applicable government regulations, established manufacturing processes, and relevant external considerations. Supports ADEKA Technical advisor with introductions of new products and processes. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (BS) in Chemistry from four-year college or university; experience in chemical manufacturing preferred. ACS certified degree preferred. Experience with analytical instruments like GC, HPLC, IR, UV-Vis and titration instrument needed. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to speak fluent English. Working Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Working knowledge of OSHA & EPA Regulations. The ability to get along with others. The ability to concentrate for extended periods. Possess a current driver's license. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must be able to travel 5% of the time, including domestic and/or international air travel. Ability to obtain a valid passport.
