Job Description:
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness at Syracuse University is seeking to hire an Research Associate I to work on a highly collaborative team in support of research that informs strategic action by the University and its component units. The Research Associate I will support data collection, analysis of newly collected and previously existing data, and communication of findings that provide the University with actionable intelligence about institutional priorities of interest to administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in a social or behavioral science field is strongly desired.

Skills and Knowledge:
  • Experience with quantitative analysis is strongly desired. Experience with qualitative analysis is a plus.
  • Experience in institutional research or an administrative office in higher education (e.g., registrar, financial aid, admissions) is a plus.
  • Ability to concurrently support multiple short- and long-term projects is required.
  • Ability to communicate quantitative research results to non-technical audiences is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
  • Experience with data extraction and statistical analysis software is strongly desired. Experience with R is a plus.
  • Experience with Tableau or other dashboarding software is a plus.

Responsibilities:
  • Support OIE staff in the execution of quantitative and qualitative research projects. Methodologies may include surveys, analysis of existing data, and focus groups.
  • Responsibly and ethically utilize University-approved artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support efficiency and productivity.
  • Extract and analyze data from University databases to assist with ad hoc requests and support large research projects.
  • Contribute to the communication of research results by supporting the development of visual, written, and oral presentations, including data visualizations, dashboards, summary tables, and infographic-style reports.
  • Provide support to senior office staff and other research associates, as needed and other duties as assigned.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of best practices in institutional research and thorough knowledge of administrative, academic, and database organization of Syracuse University.
